Statement by H. E. Afra Al Saabri on the occasion of The International Day of Human Fraternity

Tolerance is a cornerstone of human rights and  is found in numerous international human rights instruments, in which it is described as a “necessary component of a just and egalitarian society”.

Afra Al Saabri, Director General of the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence declared that the celebration of the International Day of Human Fraternity is an international recognition of the efforts of the wise leadership of the UAE. These efforts culminated in issuing the Human Fraternity Document to bring hope, peace, and tolerance to humanity, and enable it to overcome its challenges through dialogue and tolerance.

Al Saabri explained that human fraternity is our commitment to unite the world through the virtues of justice, equality, tolerance, brotherhood, prosperity, and free dialogue between people of different religions, races, cultures and backgrounds, also to achieve peace.

Al Saabri added that the summit of the Global Alliance for Tolerance in its third session, was organized by the Ministry of Tolerance and Coexistence in cooperation with the Muslim Council of Elders, and encompassed national and international organizations, government coalitions, religious leaders, educational and scientific institutions, and cultural entities. The summit celebrated what has already been achieved in the field of tolerance, and peaceful and religious coexistence. The summit called the Global Tolerance Alliance to eliminate all forms of racism through cooperation, and to achieve the summit's goal: "United for humanity".

"The Abu Dhabi Document of Human Fraternity has set clear milestones for this world, focusing on the concepts of tolerance, compassion and dialogue as values that help us achieve our human goals. And the historical moments of signing this document highlights its role in achieving human development across the globe." Al Saabri added.

Al Saabri highlighted the pride of the UAE society, known for its cultural and religious diversity, in issuing such an important document on human fraternity at the initiative and support of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, may God protect him. This document reflects his unwavering commitment to tolerance, coexistence, peace and prosperity, and his conviction that love of humanity is the most important element shaping the present and future of the society.

Al Saabri added that the directives of His Excellency Sheikh Nahayan bin Mubarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Tolerance and Coexistence, were clear from day one to spare no effort to make tolerance and coexistence possible among all at the local and international levels, through hundreds of activities, events and programs that did not exclude anyone, but their impact reached everyone, so that the Ministry includes everyone, from everyone and to everyone, our goal is to be partners in promoting a culture of tolerance, coexistence and human fraternity.
